This page describes the cookies and similar technologies used by WhatIP (whatip.xyz) and explains how you can control them. It works alongside our privacy policy, which covers the broader picture of how we handle your information.
What is a cookie
A cookie is a small text file that a website places on your device through your browser. Cookies let a site remember your preferences, measure how its pages are used, and, in some cases, help advertisers show more relevant ads. Some cookies last only for a single session and disappear when you close the browser, while others persist for a set period so the site can recognize a returning visitor. Similar technologies, such as local storage and pixels, can serve comparable purposes, and we treat them under the same categories below.
Categories of cookies we use
Essential cookies. These keep the site working. We use a small number of them to remember preferences such as your selected language or locale and to protect against abuse. They do not identify you personally, and turning them off can break parts of the site.
Preference cookies. These remember choices you make so your experience stays consistent between visits, such as a tool setting or a display option. They are not used for advertising.
Analytics cookies. We use Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to understand aggregate traffic, such as which tools and pages are most useful and how visitors move through the site. GA4 sets cookies and similar identifiers to measure this. We read the results at the aggregate level to improve the site and do not use them to identify you individually.
Advertising cookies. WhatIP is supported by display advertising served through Google AdSense. Google and its advertising partners set cookies through their ad code, including the DoubleClick cookie, to deliver and measure ads and, where you have not opted out, to personalize them based on your prior visits to this site and other sites. We do not control these cookies directly; they are governed by the third parties' own privacy policies.
How to control cookies
Browser settings. Most browsers let you view, manage, and delete cookies, and block future ones, usually under a Privacy or Site Data menu. The exact steps vary by browser. Blocking essential cookies may stop parts of the site from working as intended.
Google Ad Settings. To manage how Google personalizes the ads it shows you, visit Google Ad Settings at https://www.google.com/settings/ads.
Industry opt-out tools. You can opt out of personalized advertising from many vendors at once using https://www.aboutads.info/choices and, in Europe, https://www.youronlinechoices.eu. Opting out does not remove ads; it makes them less tailored to you.
Mobile devices. Both iOS and Android offer device-level controls to limit ad tracking, which apply independently of any single website.
Consent
Where the law in your region requires it, we ask for your consent before setting non-essential cookies, such as analytics and advertising cookies, and you can change or withdraw that choice at any time using the browser and opt-out controls above. Essential cookies are set on the basis of legitimate interest because the site cannot function properly without them. Continuing to use the site after setting your preferences indicates that you accept cookies in line with those choices.
Do Not Track
Some browsers send a Do Not Track signal with requests. Because there is no widely agreed standard for how websites should respond to this signal, we do not currently change behavior based on it. You can still control tracking using the cookie and opt-out tools described above.
Changes
When we make material changes to this cookie policy, we will update the date at the top of this page. Continued use of the site after a change indicates that you accept the revised policy.
